Important News On Smoke Alarms
Two in five smoke alarms DON'T work making thousands
of homes potential death traps, it has been revealed.
Nearly 4,000 battery powered alarms were faulty in 10,000
homes destroyed by fire in 2004, new government figures
show.
And the problem is getting worse - in 1999 just a quarter
of alarms failed.
More than a million homes in deprived areas of Britain
will get free smoke alarms in a £25 million government
campaign to save lives.
Phil Toase, of the Chief Fire Officer's Association
said it would help prevent misery and suffering.
