Frequently Asked Questions - continued.
Q. I've had a survey before and it
was rubbish, it was a waste of money - not worth the paper it
was written on.
Yes we know we have seen them too!
Like any trade/profession and indeed anything in life you have
a range of skills.
Being a chartered building surveyor sets a basic minimum
standard. We feel that getting qualified is just the start. Our
many years of experience have helped us develop a survey report
that provides insight into the condition of the property and draws
clear conclusions on whether or not your should purchase the property.
With regard to the report, we normally
find when we ask further questions the person has had a Home
Buyers Report - this is a standardised mass produced report. This report
was originally designed to be a cheap economical report on standard
modern buildings which have not been altered. We feel it's been
hijacked by some surveyors and used for almost any type of building and mainly for the wrong reasons.
Yes its good that customers have
a survey but this is a survey at its most basic level. It does
not suggest how to solve problems it just says they are present
and who
to speak to. Also have a look at the exclusion clauses
built into the Home Buyers Report. The Building surveys aim is
to be conclusive.
