FIVE THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT
BUYING A FLAT
1.0 Estate agents work for the people selling their flats (vendors) not the people buying the flats (purchasers).
2.0 Caveat Emptor.
The poor house buying law means that the people selling the house have no responsibility; almost what the estate agents want (as the estate agents can and do) to help sell the house.
3.0 Banks work for themselves.
4.0 Most chartered surveyors are owned by banks and mortgage companies, or have reciprocal agreements with them.
5.0 Independent chartered surveyors work for you, i.e. putting the client first.
Most flats are bought leasehold, which means you have a shared liability for the entire property. Our building surveys look at the entire property.
