Wandsworth Borough



Battersea , now a very desirable place to live, is situated on the South Bank of the River Thames.

Battersea Park ' is a fantastic open space with a boating lake, great wildlife, attractive gardens and many varieties of trees. There is also a children's zoo which has farmyard animals, peacocks, flamingos, otters and monkeys.

Battersea Dogs Home, the famous animal rescue centre which was founded in 1860 by a Mrs Mary Tealby in Holloway, North London has made Battersea its home since 1871.

Battersea is the birthplace of Roger Moore, the actor and James Bond star. The TV presenter Michael Aspel was also born in Battersea.



Balham is a multicultural area in the borough of Wandsworth whose history dates back to Saxon times.

Balham has theatres, plenty of trendy bars and a good selection of restaurants.

Balham is home to The London Sewing Machine Museum' that houses one of the UK 's largest collections of machines.

A lovely old Victorian town house has been the home of Balham Mosque' since the 1980's and is the main place of worship for the local Muslim community.

Wandsworth Common, Clapham Common and Tooting Common are all within easy reach.

Balham is the birthplace of Jimmy Hill', the well-known footballer and sports presenter and also Ainsley Harriott' the celebrity chef.



Putney in South West London has in recent years become a very popular place to live.

Home to the famous Putney Bridge ' which crosses the River Thames, Putney is the starting place for the Oxford and Cambridge University boat race and also home to many rowing clubs.

The famous Half Moon' music venue is in Putney and has welcomed some big names to play such as The Rolling Stones, U2, Kasabian and more.

Putney has something for everyone with great shopping, a good choice of bars and restaurants and some beautiful riverside walks.



Tooting is a down to earth' place in South London with traditional pubs and a good selection of restaurants.

Tooting was the location of Citizen Smith' the well-known 1970's sitcom.

Tooting Common' is a popular place for all that love the great outdoors. Set in 221 acres of parkland with tennis courts, an athletic track and Tooting Bec Lido', an open air pool.

The actor George Cole' famous for playing Arthur Daley in Minder' was born in Tooting in 1925.



Roehampton is an affluent area in the borough of Wandsworth. It is home to Roehampton University ' one of the newest universities in the UK . The university has a mixture of old and new buildings and mansions built in the 1700's are now part of the university.

The village of Roehampton has some lovely period buildings and large detached houses.

Roehampton is home to the National Tennis Centre' which opened in 2007 and offers state-of-the-art training facilities including 22 tennis courts, a gym, hydrotherapy and plunge pools.


Wandsworth Common

Wandsworth Common is a popular green open space with woodlands, lakes, duck ponds, children's areas and tennis and football facilities. Bellevue Road opposite the green space of Wandsworth Common has good restaurants and clothes boutiques and is well worth a visit.
